Top Ten Territory:

Ruling the Swiss singles chart for a seventh week is Leona Lewis. "Bleeding Love" (Air 1.6, Fl 1.7) also is the most listened to song on radio for a sixth week. Now as she keeps nearing the American top 10s (USA 21-8, CAN 16-11), the former 'X-Factor' winner with the great voice sees her latest single crack the UK chart at #2. The double-single "Better In Time // Footprints In The Sand" which as a concept already in the CD era was a bit outdated looks even more strange in the download era. But as detailed by James Masterton the single has already resulted in a chart first and a chart anomaly all at the same time as "Sand" also occupies its own position at #25.

In Leona's case sales and airplay are well balanced. But to find an evidence of how far they can differ you have to look no further than this week's runner-up spot. The "Kuschel Song" (CH 3-2, D 1.5, A 1.3) by Schnuffel is almost the most-sold and most-downloaded track but appears nowhere among the 100 most listened to-songs on radio.

Usually slipping one spot is not noteworthy. But it depends on timing. And "Ein Stern (...der deinen Namen trägt)" which goes down 7-8 is ranked in its 57th chart week! DJ Ötzi and Nik P. have spent all but two of them in the upper half of the survey, i.e. the top 50. This has no other single done since 1968. The former high water mark was set in 2004 when New York-based foursome Aventura raised the bar to 54 weeks with their #1-hit "Obsesión".

Chris Brown

It's A Fine Week:

It really is for the following two females. First British singer/songwriter Amy MacDonald. While Colbie Caillat did not reach the top 10 at all (peak #11 for "Bubbly") Amy does it even better than Alison Sudol. The latter defends her #10 position with "Almost Lover" but gets overtaken by the 20-year-old from Scotland as "Mr. Rock & Roll" (Air 13-12, NL 60 new) moves 13-9. This is even a better result than in the UK where the song stopped at #12 last August. Further downloads bring the title cut of her album "This Is The Life" new onto the list at #55. And above-mentioned album advances 20-11 and is on the brink of cracking the Big Ten.

The latest charts tell similar stuff about Stefanie Heinzmann. The singer from the Wallis region last week (on 10. March) turned 19 and in the nearest future can concentrate on a solo career instead of one as the lead singer of a band. Her "Masterplan" debuts right at the top of the album survey and "My Man Is A Mean Man", a former singles charttopper, ranks for over two months inside the top 5, currently at #4, as "Like A Bullet" becomes her second entry at #40.

Brandi Carlile

The New Stuff:

Rapper Chris Brown turns to R&B and his current #2 hit in the USA even boasts an unexpected acoustic guitar. "With You" (Air 48-38, NL 90-87, USA 2-2, CAN 2-3) is his sixth Swiss chart entry and this week's top debut at #39.

From Rolling Stone magazine's list of '10 Artists To Watch in 2005' to this week's chart bow in Switzerland. That's the overnight success story of new singer/songwriter Brandi Carlile (born on 1. June 1981 in Ravensdale, Washington/USA) and the title cut of her current album "The Story" (Air 71-42), new in at #52. Exposure was guaranteed thanks to a prominent placing of the song in an episode of 'Grey's Anatomy', the TV series which also helped Snow Patrol become a household name. The song itself, "Chasing Cars", makes a surprising 84-29 jump this week, resulting in the week's biggest mover despite the song's age of 64 chart weeks.

No Angels

Timbaland gathers another round of female collaborators for his seventh Swiss chart entry: Keri Hilson and Nicole Scherzinger contribute vocals to "Scream" (CH 53 new, Air 87-66, D 9 new, A 62-28 second week, NL 63 new).

Just three week after his solo single debut Adrian Sieber aka Adrian Solo makes his second visit thanks to downloads of last week's biggest airplay mover: "If You Just Knew..." (CH 59 new, Air 26-13).

Another singer/songwriter is David Keith Jordan from London. And he gained no less a figure than Trevor Horn as producer for his debut album "Set The Mood". Among Horn's credentials is a certain Sealhenry Samuel aka Seal. "Sun Goes Down" (AIr 63 new) marks his Swiss chart bow.

Eurovision Song Contest time is coming up. And slowly it's getting clearer who will travel to Belgrad/Serbia to represent its country. The Swiss song as chosen by TV station SF DRS is performed by Paolo Meneguzzi and "Era stupendo" is already ranked on the airplay survey (Air 57-68). Meanwhile Germany has staged its preselection show and the No Angels have the last of this week's eight debut tunes albeit "Disappear" (CH 96 new, D 12-4 and A 63-37 second week) is the only one among them that can look at a physical CD release. Don't wait for an Austrian entry as station ORF has chosen to once again boycot the event.
